Vechs’ newest map for Minecraft 1.12.2 is available on the Maps page! The first Super Hostile Minecraft map using functions, Iceolation features a custom-built temperature mechanic. Players must keep warm or face the real possibility of freezing to death! From your crashed airship wreckage, embark on a quest to escape your frozen wasteland, and end your Iceolation.
I was cruising along in my little airship. Suddenly, alarms started going off and the airship lost altitude. Nothing I did helped, so I braced for impact….
I survived. I’m alone. My airship is nothing but wreckage, maybe some salvageable materials to aid in my survival…
This is Iceolation. The newest Super Hostile map from the man who has brought us hours of fun (and torment, and a few rage quits) over the years. Vechs is at it again, in a map due in December, and this time, he’s making Minecraft do what he wants, with a unique temperature mechanic and armor with unique temperature attributes. The video below explains it very well.
I got to play the first bit of Iceolation. Let me tell you, it was simultaneously thrilling and scary. Immediately, my player’s temperature began to drop. Really altered my early game, what my priorities would be. I quickly realized that environment, not monsters, would be my biggest challenge early on. When your temperature drops too far, you start getting hit with debuffs. And they can get rather nasty. I equipped the leather armor in the chest, as that slows down the temperature loss. The way the terrain looks, it really feels like you are in an arctic glacier. Beautiful, but so deadly.
Quickly, I ran through ice tunnels, slid on ice-covered lakes (love that speed boost!) and made my way to something that felt was very familiar. Intersection 1! (Cue Dramatic Music)
I’ll avoid spoilers, and just tease a bit. Stone brick ruins. Lore hinting at a tragic mystery. A far distant hill with a beckoning pink flag on some sort of structure. A lonely wolf. Snow covered trees. The beauty and majesty of the areas enthralled me as I explored. But OOOPS, don’t forget to not freeze! I couldn’t help some happy wiggles as I wandered, curious about what was around each corner. I found it amusing that when a zombie hit me, my concern was that he might break my armor. After all, that’s my protection from the brutal environment! It was Minecraft experienced in a new way. Like an old friend with a new haircut. And yet, it felt so undeniably like a Vechs map that I’d have known even without being told.
Get ready, friends. And bundle up; December is going to be very, very cold. 😉 Oh, and a quick note… While the map free to the public, patrons of the $10 tier did receive early access to the map as a special thank you!
